My Education My educational trail has taken me from the lushness of rural southeastern Ohio (Gallipolis and Athens), to the beautiful mountains of West Virginia (Morgantown), to the wondrous desert of Arizona (Tucson). A variety of places, experiences, mentors, and friends.

PhD with a major in nursing research and a minor in sociology from the University of Arizona. Check out the home page for the College of Nursing -- a very fine college indeed!

MSN from the School of Nursing at West Virginia University, with another minor in sociology. It was here that I completed the requirements for certification as an Adult Nurse Practitioner.

BSN from the School of Nursing in Ohio University's College of Health and Human Services.

Diploma in Nursing from the Holzer Medical Center School of Nursing. Unfortunately, this diploma program was changed to an associate degree program -- but not before I finished!

My Research My program of research has a broad focus on persons' perceptions of and experiences with health, the health care system, formal care providers and other informal caregivers. The recent studies are more narrowly focused on self care and the health care experiences and decision-making of persons with chronic illnesses. Throughout most all of the studies you'll note (1) a focus on the perceptions of the care recipients, (2) the use of qualitative methods, and (3) a concern for cultural issues.

Here are some of my current and recent research studies. I've included those where I am (or have been the) principal investigator, as well as those in which I've played a consultant role. Beneath each study (where applicable), I've also noted the publications and presentations that arose from the study. At the conclusion of this section is a listing of presentations and publications (recent ones) that aren't attached to one of the listed studies. For any titles that are underlined, you can click on it to be taken to additional information about the item.

My Practice My practice is two-fold. First is the portion of my practice that relates to my advanced practice role as an Adult Nurse Practitioner. Second is the portion of my practice that relates to the Internet. Both of these practice areas are challenging, yet fulfilling!
