Module User Regulation

For the purpose of bookkeeping on the use of the Core Grant, we need to classify users within one of the following categories:

1. Heavy -- NEI funded PI with one or more approved projects. This person would be using the Vision Molecular Biology Module on a weekly basis.

2. Moderate -- NEI funded PI with one approved project and monthly use of the Vision Molecular Biology Module. Non-NEI funded investigator with an approved vision based project with the intent of using the project to generate preliminary data for a future NEI grand application.

3. Light -- Non-NEI funded investigator with a vision based approved project that will have limited access (monthly) to the Vision Molecular Biology Module.

The module will actually be organized and scheduled according to approved project All projects will be reviewed by the Module Oversight Committee. The module oversight committee, consisting of three heavy users plus one representative from the group of moderate users, will meet on a bimonthly basis to review the overall running of the module, usage patterns, and any problems regarding the Molecular Biology Module. The committee will be chaired by Dr. Geisert, the module director. Since the Associate Dean for Research on the UT Campus has committed additional resources to this module, he will also be a member of this committee. The Committee will have the task of reviewing each proposed project, approving the project and assigning a usage priority.

Approved projects will be categorized as priority 1, 2, 3 or 4.

Priority 1 projects will be headed by an NEI funded PI and will be directly related to a specific aim on an NEI funded grant. Priority 1 projects will have access to equipment and technical time within the module. In addition, each Priority 1 project will have an associated supply budget.

Priority 2 projects will be headed by an NEI funded PI and the project will be directly related to vision science research. Priority 2 projects will have access to equipment and limited technical time within the module.

Priority 3 projects will be headed by a non-NEI funded PI and the project will be directly related to vision science research. Priority 3 projects will have access to equipment and technical training from the module technical staff.

Priority 4 projects will be headed by a non-NEI funded PI with a project approved by the use committee. Priority 4 projects will have access to equipment within the module.
