Administration and Operation Procedures
of
the Molecular Biology Module

At this time we will begin the process of hiring a technician and purchasing equipment. Once the equipment and technical staff are in place there will be a short period of time in which the core is not open for general use. During this period, Dr. Geisert will train the technical staff and formalize all protocols to be used. At the end of this time, we will have a meeting of the users to discuss protocols, methods and procedures necessary to use the facility.

It is important for the users to understand that the Molecular Biology Module is a true core facility and not a service facility. The technical staff will instruct investigators in methods and use of equipment. The technical start will also help investigators use the equipment within the facility and will maintain the facility. Dr. Geisert's laboratory is not part of the facility and will not answer any questions concerning the Vision Core. All questions concerning techniques or the use of the Molecular Biology Module must be directed to the Technical staff of the Module.

As Module Director, Dr. Geisert will oversee the running of the facility and the day-to-day activities of the technical staff: however, his laboratory and his technical staff will remain separate from those of the Molecular Biology Module. Please direct all inquiries about the Molecular Biology Module to the technical staff of the module. If the Module Technician is not currently in the laboratory, the investigator should contact the module staff member at a later time. With this plan, we fully expect that the addition of the Molecular Biology Module will be able to add to the research efforts of everyone involved, without detracting from the efforts of any of the research laboratories associated with the Vision Core.
