Job description for
Technical Assistant in the Vision Core Molecular
Biology Module.
Purpose: The technical staff will
maintain and operate a molecular biology core
module. This facility is funded by a NEI grant,
with Eldon Geisert as director of the module. The
research assistant will oversee the day-to-day
operations of the module, maintain the equipment
and train others in the methods necessary to
conduct microarray experiments. The technical
skills necessary will be the isolation of RNA,
production of cDNA by RTPCR, and the labeling of
the DNA with fluorescent markers. The research
assistant will also be directly involved in the
hybridization of the probe with DNA microarrays and
the scanning of the arrays. There will also be a
minimal amount of computer analysis of the data
generated from the system.
Work Performed:
15% Scheduling the use of equipment and routine
paper work.
30% Isolation of RNA, Production of cDNA and
labeling the cDNA
30% Training and supervising other
investigators.
15% Maintaining inventory of Stock items and
maintaining equipment.
10% Training in the new technologies.
Requirements:
Bachelor Degree in one of the Biological
Sciences
2 years of laboratory experience in Molecular
Biology.
