Increased arterial smooth muscle cell mass and accumulation of oxidized
lipids are pathophysiological characteristics of this vascular lesion
Atherosclerosis. We believe that a change in the redox state of the
arterial wall triggers these pathophysiological events. Therefore, the
major interest of our laboratory is to study the regulation and signal
transduction mechanisms of redox-sensitive gene expression in vascular
smooth muscle cells and investigate their role in neointima formation
in a rat carotid balloon injury model of restenosis. The major techniques
used in the laboratories are Northern and Western blot analyses, nuclear
run off assays, electrophoretic mobility shift assays, 2-D gel electrophoresis,
high performance liquid chromatography, matrix-assisted laser desorption
ionization-time of light analysis, phosphopeptide mapping, reporter
gene assays and tissue culture.
