Nutrition Counseling

 

A registered dietitian is available through University Health Services by
appointment. Appointments are available anytime Monday or Tuesday. Call 529-3095 or email Whitney Orth at obesitymemphisdietitian@hotmail.com to make an appointment for issues regarding weight loss/gain, eating disorders, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and other special dietary concerns. 

This service is included in the student health fee and is no charge for
UT students, Baptist students, UT faculty or staff. There is a fee for others.

Do you know that ………

Approximately 2/3 of the adult American population is overweight or obese

As little as 30 pounds of extra weight can classify you as obese

Co-morbidities associated with obesity include hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, asthma, depression, gallstones, ulcers, reflux, sleep apnea, stroke

Losing as little as 5-10% of your body weight can improve any existing co-morbidities. 

EATING DISORDERS FACTS

Do you know that…

Anorexia Nervosa is characterized as self-starvation and excessive weight loss

Anorexia Nervosa has the highest death rate of all mental health conditions

Bulimia Nervosa is characterized as binge eating followed by some sort of compensatory behavior such as self induced vomiting

People who struggle with bulimia often appear to be of average weight

Binge eating disorder (BED) is characterized as binge eating with no compensatory behavior.  Approximately 1-5% of the general population is affected
