Report to Supervisor and to appropriate facility for evaluation.
Determine degree of exposure (massive, definite, possible, doubtful, or non-parenteral). Determine whether prophylaxis is indicated based on degree of exposure.
Determine status of source person for HIV (draw HIV unless already documented to be HIV positive).
Counsel exposee regarding safe sex, deferral from donating blood, etc., until results of source HIV/HBV are known.
Fill out blood and body fluid exposure forms and /or other appropriate OJI forms to document injury.
