Family Practice Center
The
Family Medicine Center in Covington Tennessee is a community-based clinic
and teaching facility, which is a part of the Department of Family Medicine at
the University of Tennessee Health Science Center and UT Medical Group. The
center is located 40 miles north of Downtown Memphis in the heart of a small
rural community. The Center opened in 1993 and is equipped to handle a variety
of medical conditions. There are 14 examination rooms including a
procedure suite and a telehealth conference room supported by audio-visual
equipment for remote consultation with off-site specialists via the telehealth
network. The clinic also has a CLIA-waived laboratory for in-house labs and
collections.
The goal of the Family Medicine Center’s staff is
to provide a medical home for rural families, which delivers compassionate,
patient-centered, high-quality medical care that is technologically enhanced.
The staff at the Family Medicine Center cares for patients of all ages and in
all phases of the life cycle. We offer office-based minor procedures such as
dermatologic surgery and management of the abnormal pap smear. Continuity of
care for children and adults is extended locally through the provision of
medical services at Baptist Memorial Hospital Tipton and for our patients at
Covington Manor Nursing Home.
The objective of
the Family Medicine Teaching Program is to provide the medical student and
resident physician with the essential knowledge and skills required to
practice comprehensive Family Medicine. Special emphasis is placed on training
students and residents for practice in rural areas of the United States, where
excellence in Family Medicine is needed most. We have medical student and
resident rotations, as well as summer research and intern programs offered
through the University of Tennessee Department of Family Medicine. |
