Welcome to Student Research Programs

Welcome to the home page for Student Research Fellowship and Training Programs. Research, simply stated, is the systematic investigation of an area designed to develop new knowledge or contribute to the further understanding of current knowledge. Biomedical research represents a spirit of inquiry, a challenge to solve seemingly intractable problems of the human condition, an excitement of discovery, a healthy respect for how far our understanding has come, and a humbling recognition of how much more is still to be discovered and learned.

For students who feel that research experience is an important component of their overall professional education or who are considering the possibilities of a health-science career that includes research, many opportunities are available at UTHSC to participate in a research project in a meaningful way. A number of research fellowship programs allow students to develop mini-projects and conduct them with research-active faculty members on our UTHSC campus or affiliated institutions. Students can gain first-hand experience in many of the research activities in which biomedical investigators engage as part of their profession often by working closely with a faculty member on a scientific project in the laboratory or other research setting.

You are welcome to browse the various Program websites and to explore the possibilities of engaging in biomedical research at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. Please feel free to call, email, or write to the various contact persons for more information.
