Welcome to the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee

The University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) has an active and growing research community. Many of its research endeavors involve the use of animals. UTHSC recognizes that scientific and medical knowledge gained as the result of animal research has saved lives and has improved human and animal health by the alleviation of pain and suffering. UTHSC is cognizant of the responsibilities that are associated with using animals in research and is committed to maintaining a program where animals are used judiciously, and in a humane and ethical manner. This use involves the elimination of unnecessary pain and distress.
