Welcome to the UTHSC Office of Research

With nearly $100 million awarded annually in external funding for research and sponsored programs, The University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) is home to cutting-edge research, education, and community outreach activities in Memphis and across the State of Tennessee in fulfillment of the institution's mission of improving healthcare. UTHSC has a new state-of-the art Cancer Research Building, an NIH-funded Regional Biocontainment Laboratory due to be commissioned in early 2009, and a new College of Pharmacy Building under construction. UTHSC has three state-funded centers of excellence in neuroscience, molecular resources, and pediatric pharmacokinetics, in addition to University centers of excellence in Genomics and Bioinformatics, Vascular Biology, Neurobiology of Brain Diseases, and Connective Tissue Diseases. UTHSC conducts clinical trials with most of the major pharmaceutical companies, and has on-going partnerships with numerous industry start-ups and small business firms, as well as with academic and research institutions across the United States and abroad. UTHSC is developing a Clinical Translational Science Institute that will house both basic and clinical research activities and will work with partners such as the Memphis Bioworks Foundation and industry partners to move UTHSC technology from the bench to the bedside. UTHSC discovery accounts for more than half of The University of Tennessee's annual patent applications and over forty percent of total technology transfer revenue.
