Zhiqiang Sun

Zhiqiang Sun
About Dr Sun:I graduated from Baotou Medical College in China in 1985. I received a master degree in neurobiology in 1988. I studied the neural tissue transplantation for the treatment of Parkinson's disease in Beijing Neurosurgical Institute from 1988 to 1992. I moved to Hahnemann University (now Drexel University School of Medicine) and joined Dr. Jay Schneider's lab to study the cognitive deficits and the treatment for the cognitive deficits with dopamine receptor agonists in Parkinsonian monkeys from 1992 to 1995, and became very interested in understanding the neural basis of behavior, particularly, the psychosis in schizophrenia during that period of time.

I moved to The University of Tennesse, Memphis and became a PhD student in the Neuroscience Program in August 1995, and graduated with PhD in 2001. My dissertation research was Huntington's disease pathogenesis supervised by Dr. Anton Reiner. I continued my research from 2001 to 2005 in Dr Reiner's lab. I became a psychiatry resident at The University of Tennessee Psychiatry Program in July 2005. My future plan is to seek understanding the biological basis of schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and other mental disorders while I participate in clinical psychiatric service. I enjoy fishing very much.
