The broad scope of the advanced-degree program
in Clinical Investigation is expected to serve the needs of those interested
in careers in multidisciplinary, team-based, clinical and translational
science. Aimed primarily at biomedical and healthcare professionals, the
program is expected to equip students with the advanced education and
skills to understand patient-oriented research methodology, laboratory
tools supporting such research, the interdisciplinary teamwork necessary
to translate clinical research findings to the front lines of care, and
the analytical ability to accomplish such research independently and collaboratively
across multiple fields. The expectation is that program participants will
learn to understand the processes necessary for the integrated flow of
information among preclinical research, clinical trials, and community-oriented
studies, although their own research may be focused in one area. The doctoral
program will be targeted to qualified applicants holding master’s
or master’s-level professional degrees in a variety of disciplines,
including physical, biological, and social sciences as well as the health
and medical sciences.
