  • Bachelor of Science: Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, September, 1967-June, 1970; B.S. in Animal Science, June, 1970.
  • Master of Science: Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, September, 1970-August, 1972; M.S. in Animal Science, with major in Animal Breeding and Genetics and minor in Physiology, June, 1973. Major professor: J.A. Gaines. Thesis: Heterosis from crosses among British breeds of beef cattle: Performance of the crossbred calf to weaning.
  • Doctor of Philosophy: Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, September, 1977-December, 1981; Ph.D. in Animal Breeding and Genetics, with co-majors in Statistics and Physiology, December, 1981. Major professors: T.J. Marlowe and D.R. Notter. Dissertation: Heritability and repeatability of speed for two- and three-year-old Standardbred racehorses.
  • Postgraduate Training: Research Associate (Postdoctoral), North Carolina State University, Department of Animal Science, April, 1982-October, 1984. Comments:

Dr. Tolley is a licensed animal evaluator for the Pet Partners Program of the Delta Society. As such, she screens animal-handler teams, primarily composed dogs or cats and their human partners, using the Pet Partners Skills Test and the Pet Partners Aptitude Test. In the Memphis and Nashville areas, more than twenty teams (screened by her) are ready to actively work in the health care field in animal-assisted activities or animal-assisted therapy.
