The PICU team is involved in the management of all patients, thus providing a unique opportunity for fellows to learn about the care of all types of critically ill children.

ECMO

Transitional Care Unit
The 12 bed TCU provides the first step for children with high-technology needs with which they are destined to return home. It also provides a teaching setting for parents.

Pediflight
As a pediatric critical care fellow, you are a member of Pediflight, the pediatric critical care transport team based at Le Bonheur Children's Medical Center, one of the largest rotor transport programs in the country. Over 500 critically ill children from Tennessee, Mississippi, Arkansas, Alabama, Kentucky, and Missouri are transported by Pediflight yearly.

International Health
During their 2nd and 3rd years, fellows have the opportunity to travel to other countries as members of a health care team sponsored by the International Children's Heart Foundation. Fellows participate in post-operative care of children who have undergone surgery for congenital heart lesions. Over the years, over 1200 children have received surgery in Nicaragua, China, Russia, Croatia, Peru, Belarus, and Columbia.
