Karen Andrews, M.D.
Indiana University School of Medicine
Dr. Andrews grew up in a small town an hour away from Indianapolis. She finished her undergrad degree in English Literature at Butler University, a
small liberal arts school in Indianapolis, and is consequently an avid Butler basketball fan. Because she was looking forward to a change in scenery,
she was happy to trade cornfields and cold weather for shorter winters, sweet tea, and some fabulous Memphis BBQ.
Karen also soaks up free time with family and friends, is involved in church, loves traveling overseas, road trips or just exploring new places in a
familiar town. She is a coffee connoisseur, and revels in reading non-medical books for fun with coffee in hand. She is a less-than-fabulous cook,
who loves trying new recipes, and though always resuscitating her potted plants, loves gardening.
Michael Brown, Jr, M.D.
Meharry Medical College School of Medicine
Michael is the oldest of three and a native of Dorchester, South Carolina, a small town about 40 miles from Charleston. He attended Winthrop
University where he majored in Biology and Chemistry, then went on to earn a Master of Science Degree in Public Health from Meharry University
in 2002. His hobbies include cooking, reading, online marketing, working out, listening to music, and writing plays and song lyrics. Michael
plans to enter a cardiology fellowship after residency.
Desi Carozza, M.D.
Drexel University College of Medicine
Originally from southern New Jersey, Dr. Carozza completed her undergraduate training at Millersville University, in the heart of Pennsylvania’s Amish
country. While working and attending classes in Lancaster, she enjoyed many volunteer experiences with local organizations such as Hospice and Iris
Connection, a breast cancer support group. Desi went on to medical school at Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia, earning her
medical degree in 2008. At every chance, she loves to travel, host parties, and explore new places and cultures. Desi enjoy sports, especially
dodge ball.
Elizabeth Elliott, M.D.
St. George’s University
Dr. Elliott is a native Alabamian who is thrilled to be back in Memphis! She graduated from Rhodes College with a double major in Biology and Greek
and Roman Studies, and went on to complete her medical degree at St. George’s University. Bess loves to travel and has spent much time studying in
many different places around the globe. She hopes to continue exploring the world through medical missions. Bess also enjoys running, volunteering,
baking, shopping, and spending time with friends and family.
James Hungerford, M.D.
The University of Tennessee College of Medicine
Dr. Hungerford was born and raised amidst the mountains of East Tennessee where blood runs orange. While attending King College in Bristol, TN and
earning his BS in Chemistry and Biology, James met his amazing wife, LeeAnna. He also began perfecting the art of making beautiful casts with the
fly rod, yet coming up with very few to no fish. He moved to Memphis to attend the University of Tennessee Health Science Center College Of
Medicine while his wife swiftly worked through her Master of Health Administration and secured a job at Methodist University Transplant Institute
as Assistant Administrator. They love their dog Rusty dearly, and are looking forward to getting to know Memphis better during residency.
Elisha McCoy, M.D.
The University of Tennessee College of Medicine
Born and raised in Clarksville, TN, the fifth largest city in the state, Dr. McCoy graduated from the University of Memphis with a Biology degree. Go
Tigers! Elisha spent several years in a clinic environment working with the Church Health Center before attending medical school at The University
of Tennessee Health Science Center. She is active in the Memphis community through various volunteer activities including serving as a sorority
advisor for Phi Mu Fraternity at the University of Memphis. In her spare time, Elisha enjoys spending time with family and friends, church, her
cat (Charter) and her lab (Bailey), watching Tiger athletics, reading, and traveling.
Anthony Rudine, M.D.
Texas Tech University School of Medicine
Dr. Rudine was born in Dallas, Texas and raised in the suburb of Mesquite, home of the world famous rodeo. After high school he attended Texas Tech
University where he earned a BS degree in Animal Science. While an undergraduate, he performed bench and field research for the Howard Hughes Medical
Institute that resulted in multiple publications. Anthony continued at Tech in a joint program where he graduated with an MD and MBA in Health Organization
Management. In his spare time, Anthony enjoys writing, reading, movie watching and playing with his beloved Welsh Corgi, Rusty.
Joe Sturdivant, M.D.
The University of Tennessee College of Medicine
Dr. Sturdivant is a native Tennessean raised in rural West Tennessee in the small town of Bruceton. He attended the University of Tennessee at
Martin where along with attaining a Bachelor’s degree in Biology, he met his future wife, Erin. He then attended medical school at the University
of Tennessee Health Science Center graduating in 2007. Afterwards, he completed a year of training in Ob/Gyn at the University of Alabama at
Birmingham before changing residencies. When not working Joe can be found enjoying the company of friends, cooking, playing golf, or hunting.
He and Erin celebrated the birth of their first child in October.
Naveed Younis, M.D.
Rawalpindi Medical School
Born and raised in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, Dr. Younis received his medical degree from Rawalpindi Medical College. Like almost all the
people from the sub-continent, he is a cricket fanatic. Naveed’s other hobbies are watching movies, cycling, playing soccer and football, and
working on his computer.
