Dr. John Sanders

On July 1, 2007, Dr. John Sanders began his first year of training in pediatric nephrology at the UTHSC. He graduated from the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University in 2000. He completed his general pediatric residency at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, HI in 2003. He served as a staff general pediatric at Reynolds Army Community Hospital at Fort Sill, OK from 2003 to 2007. In 2005 he was deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom III as the squadron surgeon of 2/3 Armored Calvary Regiment.

Dr. Sanders' second and third years are supported by a fellowship training grant from the National Kidney Foundation. Dr. Robert J. Wyatt and Dr. Jan Novak (University of Alabama at Birmingham) are co-sponsors of this grant. His project is related to the use of serum galactose-deficient IgA1 levels for non-invasive diagnosis of IgA nephropathy. He also was awarded a small grant for $5000 from the Le Bonheur Children's Medical Center (7/1/2008-6/30/2009) to support this project. Dr. Sanders is currently a student in the University of Tennessee College of Graduate Health Sciences Masters of Epidemiology program.
