Clinical Care
The division of pediatric nephrology cares for patients admitted to the Le Bonheur Childrens Medical Center, a 225 bed full service regional childrens hospital. Acute dialysis and chronic venous-venous hemofiltration are provided for inpatients at the LBCMC. The dialysis program of the LBCMC has an average census of 12 chronic hemodialysis and 6 home peritoneal dialysis patients. An average of 8 kidney transplants are performed per year by the 4 transplant surgeons of the Methodist University Hospital Transplant Institute/University of Tennessee Divison of Transplant Surgery. In 2007 twenty-three native kidney biopsies and 13 renal allograft biopsies were performed. The division provides pediatric nephrology consultations and dialysis services for the St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital and consultations for the Newborn Center at the Regional Medical Center.

Pediatric Nephrology Clinic
There is an average of 1500 outpatient visits per year to the pediatric nephrology clinic and 500 visits per year to the pediatric kidney transplant clinic.
The pediatric nephrology clinic is held in Suite 110 in the Physicians Office Building at the Le Bonheur Childrens Medical Center, 777 Washington Ave or the corner of Washington and Dunlap. The entrance to the parking garage is on Washington Ave between Dunlap and Manassas. Parking is free you pull a ticket to get into the lot, but you will be given a token for parking at checkout after the visit.

Kidney Transplant Clinic
Sixty patients are followed in this clinic. Pediatric transplant nurse coordinators, Sandy Powell (right) and Dena Hays (left), are supported by the LBCMC and attend these clinics. They may be reached at 901-287-5434, 287-5438 or through the LBCMC operator at 287-0000.

Le Bonheur Children's Medical Center Dialysis Program

Dr. Deborah Jones is the medical director of the LBCMC dialysis program. The dialysis unit is located on the second floor of the central patient tower in close proximity to the intensive care unit. The dialyis unit has six stations for chronic hemodialyis and a room for peritoneal dialysis teaching. The dialysis staff (photo to right) from left to right are Lynn Thomas (head dialysis nurse), Courtney Williams (dialysis nurse), Violet Myers (dialysis nurse, peritoneal dialysis trainer), Sherry Wallace (dialysis technician), Delores Evants (dialysis nurse) and Shirley May (dialysis nurse). Acute hemodialysis services are provided for patients under age 18 at the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
