On July 1, 2007, Dr. John Sanders began his first year of training in pediatric nephrology at the UTHSC. He graduated from the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University in 2000. He completed his general pediatric residency at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, HI in 2003. He served as a staff general pediatric at Reynolds Army Community Hospital at Fort Sill, OK from 2003 to 2007. In 2005 he was deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom III as the squadron surgeon of 2/3 Armored Calvary Regiment (

On July 1, 2008, Dr. Matthew Eison began his first year of training in pediatric nephrology at the UTHSC. He graduated from the Medical University of South Carolina in 2000. He completed his pediatric residency at Crozer Chester Medical Center, Upland, PA in 2003 (more).

 

 

 

Fellow Rotations

Year One

Pediatric Nephrology Inpatient (staff attendings) - 8 one-month blocks
Adult Transplant /Methodist-University Hospital – one month
Dialysis (Colleen Hastings) - one month
Pediatric Urology (Mark Williams) – one month
Renal Pathology - one month
Outpatient – one half-day nephrology clinics and one half-day transplant clinic when on pediatric nephrology inpatient rotation; one half-day clinic when on renal pathology and dialysis rotation; no clinics when on urology or transplant rotation since the fellow attends clinics on those services
Call – every other week nights and weekends (beeper call from home)

Years Two and Three
Fellows may do up to two months of research during year one and make up those clinical rotations during years three and four.
Outpatient – one half-day clinic per week
Call – one week per month night and weekend call (beeper call from home).

Meetings Fellows receive full support from the division to attend at least two meetings a year, but are allowed to attend additional meetings to present abstracts or if supported by extramural travel grants.
