Biography:

Dr. Martinez received his M.D. at the University of Madrid School of Medicine in 1968 and completed his internship at Tucson Hospitals Medical Education Program.  He completed his Pathology Residency at the University of Colorado Medical Center where he then served as Instructor, Assistant Professor and Associate Professor at the University of Colorado Medical School.  Dr. Martinez also served as Professor and Director of Autopsy Service at Thomas Jefferson University from 1986-1991.  Other appointments included: Professor and Associate Professor of Pathology at Hahnemann University Medical College and Instructor, Assistant Professor, and Associate Professor at the University of Colorado Medical Center from 1973-1986.

Dr. Martinez serves on various committees at UT and the VA Medical Center, Memphis including the Pathology Residency Committee at UT and the Clinical Executive Board at the VA Medical Center.  He is on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Pathology Laboratory Investigator and serves as a reviewer on numerous scientific journals.  He is a member of several national and international societies including: American Association for the Advancement of Science; American Society for Investigative Pathology (FASEB); American Association for the Study of Liver Disease; American Society for Cell Biology; European Pathology Society; Histochemical Society; International Academy of Pathology; Pluto Club; American College of Forensic Examiners; Fellow, College of American Pathologists.

Research Interests:

Dr. Martinez is active in the areas of student/resident education and liver research.  His major research interests are in Biology of Basement Membranes; Pathology of the Extracellular Matrix; Electron Immunohistochemistry; and Hepatic and Cardiovascular Pathology.
