Health Disparities
The UT Health
Disparities Center. The Health Disparities
Center was created to address health access and outcome disparity issues in
2002. It was merged into the Outreach Center in April 2004. Since the
merge in April, the Outreach Center has entered into a contractual
agreement with the National Library of Medicine to develop a database to
test and demonstrate the feasibility and usefulness of an interactive
web-based national health disparities data map. This data map serves as a
valuable research and service tool to combat the health disparities that
are having an increasingly catastrophic effect on our nation’s ability to
meet healthcare needs and contain escalating expenses. In order to move
health disparities into a stand alone center with viable research and
service projects, funds and/or profits from the MSTC are planned for use to
initiate new projects and to be used as rider projects to combat health
disparities.
