Residency Training Program

The Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center provides comprehensive postgraduate training in the medical and surgical management of head and neck disorders in a rich academic environment. The program includes a total of 5 years of training. The first year is spent rotating through the general surgery specialties with specific months spent on rotations as outlined by the guidelines of the ACGME requirements for otolaryngology residents. The remaining 4 years are devoted to further advancement in training to encompass the wide range of clinical and operative aspects of our field.

The department currently has a total of 14 residents from diverse backgrounds, including 3 new residents this year. There will be two interview days for 2 open positions in the upcoming application cycle (Thursday 12/10/09 and Friday 12/11/09). The interview day consists of an introduction to the department by our chairman followed by one on one interviews with our faculty members. The day will conclude with a tour of the hospitals in which the residents rotate. An informal dinner with the applicants and residents is held the night before interviews.

Applications are processed through the NRMP. For further information regarding application to the residency program please contact our Program Coordinator, Claudia Mannon (cmannon@utmem.edu).
