HSC Faculty and Staff:

As an educational institution and federal contractor, UT Health Science Center is required to compile and provide a count of employees by job category, race, ethnicity and gender to the federal government on an annual basis, and this also includes being in compliance with Title 38, United States Code, Section 4212(d), the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL), Veterans' Employment and Training Service (VETS) collects and compiles data on the Federal Contractor Program Veterans' Employment Report (VETS-100 Report).

Recently the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC revised the race and ethnic categories by which the institution reports applicants and employees. As a result, the Office of Human Resources is offering employees the opportunity to voluntarily and confidentially "re-identify" their race or ethnicity with these new options beginning June 1.

There will be an option that enables designation of two racial categories should you choose to do so. The category Asian or Pacific Islander has been separated into two new categories, Asian and Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander. Also, the category Black has been changed to Black or African American and the category Hispanic to Hispanic or Latino.

We invite you to provide information to aid us in taking and evaluating affirmative measures and to assist us in complying with reporting requirements under Federal law. Provision of the information is voluntary. Information about race and ethnicity and veteran status and/or a disability is kept confidential, except that 1) supervisors and managers may be informed with regard to restrictions on the work or duties of persons with disabilities and any necessary accommodations, and 2) first aid personnel may be informed when, and to the extent appropriate, the condition might require emergency treatment. You will not be subject to adverse treatment if you choose not to provide this information.

Please click on or copy and paste the following link into your web browser to access this survey: www.utmem.edu/aaii. Everyone will start with the VETS 100 section and transition to the ethnicity and race section for completion of the survey. If you choose to participate, please do so by Monday, September 8, 2008 by 8:00 a.m.
