Panda, MD, FACP

Mukta Panda, MD, FACP, is Interim
Internal Medicine Chair and Transitional Year Program Director at UT College of
Medicine Chattanooga (UT COMC). Dr. Panda joined the UT COMC faculty in 1998
after completing her residency in Chattanooga.
She has received Outstanding Teacher
Awards both in Internal Medicine and the Transitional Year Program.
Specifically, Dr. Panda was one of ten program directors honored by The
Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) as a recipient of
the Parker J. Palmer Teaching Award at the ACGME’s winter Board of Directors
meeting. The award is given for dedication in teaching new physicians, and Dr.
Panda is viewed as a champion of resident research and presentations.
Born in New Delhi, India, Dr.
Panda is a graduate of Goa Medical College-Bombay University in India. She
completed medical residencies in India, Saudi Arabia, London, England and
Chattanooga, TN. This also encompasses completing a
fellowship in the
Faculty Development Fellowship
Program in General Internal Medicine at the University of North Carolina at
Chapel Hill (2001-2003).
In a recent interview
with Dr. Panda, the Office of Equity and Diversity (OED) learned the following:
Q: What kind of music do you like and do you have a favorite singer/musician
or song?
A: I like Classical Indian and oldies, and recently I have been listening to
Nora Jones.
Q: What
is your favorite fast food restaurant and what item do you order most often from
the menu when visiting that particular restaurant?
A: I like Panera and the menu item ordered most often is chicken noodle soup.
Q: What
was the last movie/motion picture you attended at a movie theatre?
A: The Namesake was the last movie I attended at a movie theatre.
Q: Do you have a favorite dessert, and if so what is it?
A: My favorite dessert is chocolate in any form.
Q: What was the last book you read?
A: The last two books I read were Why Good
Things Happen to Good People and Just Peace: A Message of Hope.
Q: What are some of your hobbies?
A: Cooking and being with my “kids” are my hobbies.
Q: What tourist attractions have you visited in Tennessee, and have you ever
visited Graceland (i.e., Elvis Presley’s home) in Memphis?
A: We have visited the Aquarium in Chattanooga, and Graceland in 1993.
Q: What
do like most about working in UT College of Medicine - Chattanooga?
A: I like all the people that make up the
community of UT Chattanooga (College of Medicine).
