FACILITIES
Clinical training at The University of Tennessee, utilizes a variety
of facilities in Memphis, a long-established referral center in which
the medical industry provides 10% of all jobs in the metropolitan area.
The majority of training takes place in the downtown Medical Center, but
additional hospital facilities in east Memphis are utilized to provide
an educationally diverse variety of obstetrical, surgical, and office
experiences. Facilities include:
The Regional Medical Center
Clinical training is based in the Regional Medical Center, a well-equipped
county hospital housing a Women’s Hospital (The Rout Center), Neonatal
ICU, full operating room facilities, and hospital wards for gynecology
patients. Activities at the Regional Medical Center are closely integrated
with those of the contiguous University of Tennessee Bowld Hospital, a
private hospital owned and operated by the University.
The Medplex Ambulatory Care Center, located at 880 Madison Avenue (adjacent
to the Regional Medical Center), is a modern outpatient facility that
houses resident and faculty clinics. Continuity of Care clinics are conducted
in conjunction with faculty clinics, allowing close supervision and teaching.
The clinic space also houses a high risk obstetrical clinic, colposcopy
clinic and urogynecology clinic.
Methodist University Hospital and Methodist Healthcare System
Methodist University Hospital is a 696 bed tertiary care referral center,
operated by Methodist Hospital System and fully integrated with the University
of Tennessee educational programs. Training facilities include a labor
and delivery unit with 12 LDR’s, a neonatal ICU and an active gynecologic
surgery service. Methodist Germantown Hospital is a satellite hospital
of the Methodist System. Located in East Memphis, residents have the opportunity
to perform private gynecologic surgery with numerous clinical faculty.
Baptist Women’s Hospital
Baptist Women’s Hospital, a free-standing facility completed three
years ago, is totally dedicated to women’s obstetrical and gynecologic
care. Residents maintain an obstetrical and gynecologic surgery service,
actively working with private clinical faculty who direct their education
in the operating room and labor and delivery. The Center for Urinary and
Pelvic Disorders is a modern continence center (with urodynamics and cystoscopy
equipment) through which residents rotate when on the urogynecology rotation.
UT Medical Group Office Practice Building
UT Medical Group is the private practice arm of the University of Tennessee.
This new office facility is located in East Memphis, midway between Methodist
Germantown Hospital and Baptist Women’s Hospital. It is a state-of-the-art
multispecialty office facility that houses faculty practices in general
ob/gyn and urogynecology.
