OBGYN Clerkship General Information

Clerkship Overview


The eight week rotation consists of two four-week blocks:

Gynecology

I. Three different venues

A. The Med
B. Methodist/Oncology
C. Baptist East/Methodist Germantown

II. Surgery

III. Rounds

IV. Clinics

A. Routine gynecology
B. Resident clinics
C. Faculty clinics

V. Call every fourth night, until nine p.m.

VI. Lecture series/problem-based cases

Obstetrics

I. Labor & Delivery

II. Clinic

A. High risk obstetrics
B. Ultrasound rotation
C. Routine obstetrics & family planning

III. Problem-based lectures on common Ob-Gyn problems

IV. Lectures

V. Call every fourth night, all night

In addition, Gynecological Teaching Associates (GTAs) are used to teach pelvic and breast examinations during the first week of the rotation.
