Nurse Anesthesia
-WHAT IS NURSE ANESTHESIA-
The Nurse Anesthesia option prepares the graduate to practice settings where nurse anesthesia services are required. The focus is on anesthetic, practice setting, and pain management.
-NURSE ANESTHESIA OPTION-
The front-loaded format includes two terms for didactic material. During the third term, the student begins a clinical practicum while completing didactic course work. The final two terms are dedicated full-time clinical education. The first portion of the program is completed on campus at the UTHSC and the University’s calendar is followed.
-DEFINITION OF CRITICAL CARE NURSING EXPERIENCE-
Recent (within the two years prior to application) Adult ICU nursing experience is the type of critical nursing experience we are seeking. We do not consider operating room, post-anesthesia recovery nurse (PACU), or emergency room nurse as critical care nursing experience. Certainly pediatric intensive care nursing as well as other types of nursing experiences are considered BUT ONLY if the applicant has had at least one year of full-time adult intensive care nursing experience at some point. However, Most of our applicants have on average, 3-5 years of adult critical care experience.
