Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) in Adult or Family The University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) College of Nursing offers an online program of study leading to the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) in Family or Adult Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing. This is a practice doctorate that prepares Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners for an integrative practice at the doctoral level. Admission requires preparation with one of the following Master of Science in Nursing degrees: Adult Nurse Practitioner, Family Nurse Practitioner, Psychiatric Family Nurse Practitioner, Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner or Psychiatric Clinical Nurse Specialist. Duration of the program is two years. The online program requires on-campus experience at the beginning and end of each semester. Most clinical experiences across the lifespan are obtained in each student's community in various clinical sites with a preceptor. A practice residency is required during the last semester in which a quality improvement project is completed. The curriculum design will vary according to the practitioner's preparation upon entry to the program.
