Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing

The University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) College of Nursing offers an online program of study leading to the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing.  This is a practice doctorate that prepares nurses for an integrative practice at the doctoral level.

Students eligible for the Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing DNP have a variety of backgrounds and professional nursing experiences. Students must have an entry level degree (BSN, MSN) into the profession of nursing, with all nursing backgrounds eligible for the DNP in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing.

Duration of the program is approximately two years (Post-MSN) or three years (Post-BSN).  The online program requires some on-campus time to be determined by the Option Coordinator.  Clinical experiences across the lifespan are obtained in each student's community in various clinical sites with a preceptor.  A practice residency is required during the last semester in which a quality improvement project is completed (no dissertation).  The curriculum design will vary according to the student's preparation upon entry to the program.
