Doctor of Nursing Practice
The Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program . . .
- Is a full-time, two or more year program of study mostly for individuals already holding an MSN.
- Two academic terms per year with each term lasting 20 weeks.
- Students are required to be on campus four times yearly, at the start and end of each term, typically Monday-Friday.
- First two terms consist primarily of core courses.
- Last two or more terms focus on courses in the student’s area of concentration, as well as a resident practicum and a resident project.
- Resident work arranged by student in conjunction with UTHSC faculty member.
- Students typically complete the residency requirement in the area they currently live.
- Length of program depends on student’s qualifications and area of concentration.
- For example, program length for student entering with MSN and nurse practitioner certification would be less than student entering with MSN but without nurse practitioner certification.
- Has no dissertation requirement.
- Is not available as a part-time program.
The DNP program is web-enhanced (primarily online, with required on-campus component).
- The program is designed to offer students flexibility in determining their own living arrangements, schedule of study, and timing of engagement in coursework.
- Students are required to be on campus four times yearly, at the start and end of each term.
- Each on-campus time is typically one week (Monday-Friday).
- On-campus time is for face-to-face meetings, classes, exams, seminars, discussion groups, etc.
- On-campus schedules will vary from term to term depending on classes and option/specialization.
