Patricia M. Speck, DNSc, FNP-BC, SANE-A, SANE-P, DF-IAFN, FAAFS, FAAN graduated from UTHSC College of Nursing with a BSN in 1982 and an MSN in 1985. In 2005, she graduated from the doctorate program in Public Health Nursing where she developed a tool and studied Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner programs. Dr. Speck is an internationally recognized family nurse practitioner expert in sexual assault and forensic nursing. She has 25 years of clinical practice experience and is currently Assistant Professor and Public Health Nursing Option Coordinator at UTHSC CoN in Memphis, TN. Her practice includes disadvantaged under- and never-served forensic populations in Memphis, TN and nationally. She maintains an active faculty practice, consults and has research interest in forensic nursing practice and interpersonal violence across the life span, its effects on individuals and populations, policy development, program evaluation and violence prevention initiatives. She consults nationally and has published professionally, lectures internationally, and has been honored with over 20 local, national and international awards. She provides expert advice to a number of government and not-for-profit organizations and is the only nurse asked to speak at the NIJ Sexual Violence Research Workshop in June 2008. Her SANE Program Evaluation Questionnaire (SPEQ) has been adapted to support Department of Justice Technical Assistance to SARTs nationally through the International Association of Forensic Nurses (IAFN). Dr. Speck was President of the IAFN (2005-6) and currently serves as a member or officer on the Board of Directors of several local community organizations that attempt to prevent or respond to sexual and interpersonal violence and its aftermath.
