Dr. Susan Patton is a Board Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner and co-proprietor of East Arkansas Children’s Clinic, in Forrest City, where she has lived for the past 25 years. She serves as Medical Consultant to Kids for the Future, a developmental preschool located in Forrest City. In addition, Dr. Patton works with victims of child abuse and sexual assault in her general pediatric practice. In her faculty position at University of Tennessee College of Nursing, she is the Coordinator of the only doctor of nursing practice program focused on forensic nursing in the world. Dr. Patton received her Associate Degree of Nursing from Memphis State University and attended East Arkansas Community College after moving to Forrest City in 1982. She received her BSN from University of Memphis; Masters of Nursing in Maternal Child Health from University of Arkansas, Medical Sciences; Postgraduate degree for Family Nurse Practitioner and Doctor of Nursing Science from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis. Dr. Patton joined the faculty of University of Tennessee College of Nursing in 2001. Her major areas of research and practice are developmental pediatrics and injury/violence prevention.
Dr. Patton serves on the Education Committee of the International Association of Forensic Nurse, President of the Forensic Nurse Certification Board, and Chairs the Ad Hoc Committee for Advanced Practice Portfolio Credentialing Committee. Her involvement with the Arkansas Nurses Association has included positions such as District President, Convention Chair, APN Council Chair, and a number of political ad hoc committees. Dr. Patton has received a number of awards in her career including the Arkansas Advance Practice Nurse of the Year, a Special Recognition from the Arkansas General Assembly for her service to Arkansas, Dr. John Runyan Award for Community Health Nursing, the UTHSC Excellence in Teaching, and the Arkansas Foundation for Medical Care Innovator’s Award.
