Dr. Koozer Olson received her MSN from Pace University/ New York Medical College in 1974. She then completed a Post Masters Family Nurse Practitioner Program at this same institution. In 1984, She completed a PhD in Community Systems Planning and Development with a minor in Community Health Nursing from the Pennsylvania State University.
Dr. Koozer Olson joined the faculty of The University of Tennessee Health Science Center-Memphis in December 2007. She is currently a Professor of Nursing and the FNP Option Coordinator. Prior to coming to UT, she was at Texas A & M University- Corpus Christi since 1996. In 1994, Dr. Koozer Olson instigated the primary care nurse practitioner role at Hytrol Conveyor Company in Jonesboro, AR as part of a dual teaching/ practice role. As an Associate Professor of Nursing at Arkansas State University during this time the College of Nursing and Health Professions nominated Dr. Koozer Olson for both the Excellence in Teaching and Excellence in Services University Awards. She has 25 years teaching experience in both graduate and undergraduate nursing education.
Dr. Koozer Olson has been active in many community and university service areas having served on both United Way Agency and private corporate boards. She has done consulting for the Arkansas State Legislature on access to health care issues and served as a DHHS grant reviewer.
Dr. Koozer Olson is certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner by The American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. Her current scholarship accomplishments included edition editor for Holistic Nursing Practice, textbook chapters and journal articles. She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau, The American College of Nurse Practitioners, The American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, The National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties and Texas Nurse Practitioner’s. In 2005 Dr. Koozer Olson was recognized for her contributions and commitment to the nurse practitioner profession by The American Academy of Nurses Practitioners and inducted as Fellow in the Academy.
