Dr. Kathleen McCoy first graduated Nursing School from an Associate Program at Suffolk County Community College, Selden NY; she then went on to attain her BS(N) from Regents College, now the State University of New York. She specialized as a Medical-Surgical Critical Care nurse. For her Master’s Degree, she attended the State University of New York: SUNY at Stony Brook NY for her MS as a Psychiatric Mental Health NP/CNS. Years later she received her Psychiatric Family Nurse Practitioner credentials with a Post Masters Certificate as FNP-BC, APN and her DNSc. Both were attained back to back at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, Memphis TN. Her Dissertation was “Changes in an APN practice following changes in TennCare and Medicare.

Dr. McCoy has developed the role of Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner through her strategically planned career moves. Beginning with broad experience she then specialized in Mental Health and has enjoyed employment in State, Federal and local for profit and non-profit organizations; in both in-patient and out patient/community based settings. She has also been entrepreneurial and has owned a Psychiatric Mental Health Practice for nearly 5 years. She has recently joined the Faculty at UTHSC and anticipates a research agenda strongly focusing on the APN as collaborator and agent of collaboration.
