Patricia A. Cowan attended the University of Missouri-Columbia where she received her baccalaureate degree in nursing. She received a master’s degree in adult health nursing from the University of Kansas and her PhD from the University of Tennessee. Dr. Cowan has been a faculty member in the College of Nursing and Graduate Health Sciences since 2000. Her research interests include lifestyle interventions (exercise/diet) in overweight youth and adults (healthy, transplant recipients, and individuals with diabetes), and cardiovascular and metabolic outcomes. She participates in a multi-professional research team and is interested in translational research. Dr. Cowan enjoys teaching in the undergraduate and graduate programs. She is an active member of the American Nephrology Nursing Association, the American Heart Association, the American Nurses Association, the American College of Sports Medicine, and Sigma Theta Tau International.
