Jacqueline Rosenjack Burchum, DNSc, APRN, BC, joined the UT College on Nursing in July 2005. Dr. Burchum received her BSN degree at Union University in Jackson TN. She earned the Master of Science in nursing (1996) and Doctor in Nursing Science (2002) degrees from UT Health Science Center, Memphis, TN.
As a nurse practitioner and nurse researcher, Dr. Burchum has focused on addressing the needs of immigrant and refugee populations. Dr. Burchum is a current and active member of the Tennessee Immigrant Rights Coalition, the Migrant Clinicians Network, and the International Transcultural Nursing Society, where she serves as peer reviewer for the Journal of Transcultural Nursing. Dr. Burchum has presented on cultural needs of special populations at local, national, and international conferences. Her conceptual analysis, Cultural Competence: An Evolutionary Perspective, has been widely referenced, nationally and internationally, by healthcare professionals, educational institutions, and governmental agencies.
Dr. Burchum currently serves as distance faculty for The University of Tennessee and teaches primarily online. She serves on Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society’s Distance Learning Committee as a peer reviewer for online case studies since its inception. More recently, she was selected to be a reviewer for JOLT, the Journal of Online Learning and Teaching, a peer-reviewed, online publication addressing the scholarly use of multimedia resources in education. She is one of 12 nurses in Tennessee who has earned the Certified Nurse Educator credential.
Dr. Burchum’s teaching responsibilities include Pharmacology, Health of Populations, and the Cultural Diversity and Pharmacology components of Gerontology Nursing at the undergraduate level and Physical Diagnosis, Advanced Pharmacology, Primary Care I, and Primary Care II at the graduate level. She is a member of the Tennessee Nurses Association, Sigma Theta Tau International (dual membership in Nu Lambda and Beta Theta at Large), Transcultural Nursing Society, National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties, and National League for Nursing.
