2.  Degree Requirement

  • For Post Bachelor’s Professional Entry for individuals holding a BSN or MSN-CNL degree in nursing from a program accredited by a national organization (NLNAC or CCNE) responsible for nursing accreditation.
  • For Post MSN Advanced Practice for individuals holding a MSN degree in nursing with advanced practice credentials from a program accredited by a national organization (NLNAC or CCNE) responsible for nursing accreditation.

3. Official Transcripts

  • “Official” transcripts from every college/university you have attended must be collected by you
  • Official transcripts must be submitted to Enrollment Services as part of “Paper-packet component”

4. Grade Point Average

  • Only applicants with cumulative GPA >3.0 based on all collegiate work or cumulative GPA > 3.2 earned during applicant’s most recently completed degree program will be considered for admission.
  • GPA calculation for most recently completed degree will be based only grades earned at degree-granting institution.
  • Applicants may submit additional documents to demonstrate professional scholarship and leadership abilities that could make them more competitive.

5. RN License

  • Copy of currently-held, unencumbered TN RN license, or currently-held unencumbered authority-to-practice as RN via multi-state licensure compact, or RN license from another state, if all clinical work during academic program will take place in that state
  • Copy of RN license to be submitted to Enrollment Services as part of “Paper-packet component”

6. Recommendation Forms (we prefer personal email addresses of references… we prefer that you do not use email addresses ending in .edu or .org) )

  • Applicant must provide names and email addresses of three references
    • Example: Johnsmith@yahoo.com or janedoe@hotmail.com
  • Recommendation Forms will be emailed to references when your application is submitted
  • References asked to complete and submit “Recommendation Forms” online to Enrollment Services
  • Two Rec Forms should be completed by faculty members  who can address your academic ability.
  • One Rec Form should be completed by an employer or professional who can address your professional performance.

7. Certifications

  • Current Basic Life Support and Advanced Life Support prior to UTHSC enrollment …
  • and maintained throughout UTHSC enrollment
  • Current PALS for Neonatal and Anesthesia
  • Current NRP for Neonatal
  • Copy of certification submitted in “Paper-packet component”

8. Laptop Required & Essential Computer Skills

9. Professional Goals Essay

  • Provide a statement describing your career goals and interest in graduate study
  • Must be submitted online as part of “Web-based component” of application process

3-5 pages

(2-3 pages min.)


10. If Native Tongue not English (minimum TOEFL scores required)

  • Evidence of English proficiency is mandatory part of application process
  • Official minimum TOEFL Score earned within two (2) years prior to application to College of Nursing
  • Official scores must be submitted as part of “Paper-packet component”
  • … Three versions of TOEFL: * Paper-based Test, ** Computer-based, *** Internet/web-based

11. Experience Requirements

  • This issue is directly related to your background and the DNP option you are interested in pursuing.
  • For example, if you already have an NP license (e.g., FNP) and are interested in earning a DNP in the same area (i.e., family), no prior experience is required.

  • Successful background check must be completed prior to enrollment (to be completed after acceptance)
