Background

The Virtual Primary Care Clinic (VPCC) is a suite of patient rooms in a virtual clinic created in Macromedia's Authorware® that advance practice students use as they put core primary care content into practice.

Setup to Run the VPCC

Please follow these directions to ensure that your computer is set up to run the virtual clinic.

  1. Go to http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/alternates/
  2. Download and install the latest version of the Authorware web player - select the following option for the player:

Authorware Web Player 6.0 - Full
Plays any Authorware application, created with Authorware version 6, 5.x, 4 or 3.5.

Opening the VPCC

Follow these steps to open the virtual clinic.

  1. Once you have downloaded and installed the full Authorware web player, go to /nursing/DHEP/launchvpcc.html
  2. If you have installed the Authorware web player correctly, you should see a Macromedia logo and, within seconds, a login screen will open that says: "Enter your first name and press enter".
  3. Place your cursor in the blank box beside First Name and type in your first name. Press enter.
  4. Continue the above steps for your middle name and last name.

Note: The Authorware program allows for recording of responses that can be emailed to faculty and the login is required for that feature. Additionally, the program tracks progress in the program. If you sign off prior to completing the full case, you will be logged back in at the place that you signed off (provided you sign in with the same name each time).

  5. If this is your first time to login to the program, you will receive a message that says "Your name is not on the roster. Would you like to sign-on?" Merely select the Sign-on option and you'll be taken to the opening screen of the program.

Navigating the VPCC

Follow these steps to navigate within the virtual clinic.

  1. Click anywhere on the opening screen (the welcoming screen that says It's Cardiovascular Day in the VPCC) to be taken to the next screen.
  2. Wait for the javanoids (people icons) to stop moving to their respective locations.
  3. Although there are 9 cases in the full Cardiovascular VPCC, for this version only the case of Tommy Parker is active. Click on the icon for Tommy Parker to be taken to the opening screen of his case.
  4. Follow the screen prompts for entering any required information on the screens. To move from one screen to another, use the small back and forward arrows at the top upper left-hand portion of the screen.

Note: Using the 2nd set of arrows at the upper left-hand portion of the screen takes you back to the opening screen of the VPCC. You can use the Menu option to jump ahead or backward in the VPCC (just click the + to expand the options for Tommy Parker's case). Close the menu option by clicking on the small box in the upper right-hand side of the menu screen.

Note: You are not required to enter information into the screens where prompted.

  5. Information about the number of screens remaining in the case is located at the upper right-hand portion of the screen. For example, the first screen of Tommy Parker's case is screen 1 of 29.
  6. You may want to explore other buttons along the left-hand side of the screen. For example, the objectives have been left in for your review. The glossary has not been left intact for this packaging.
