Frequently Asked Questions

How does this project effect me?

You will get a higher network speed and greater security. All networked devices will receive new addresses. This includes all desktops, laptops, servers, and printers.

How will I get a new IP address on my desktop or laptop?

You will receive your new address automatically via DHCP. This should require no action on your part.

How will servers get a new address?

All servers will be assigned an address. Before an address can be assigned, information about the server and the classification of its data and hardware must be submitted. See Secure Server Initiative .

I work from home. How do I connect to my office computer?

You must use a VPN connection through the new firewall. Once you have established the connection into the internal network, you can then connect to your system. Remember that your system will have a new address.

Will this effect my wireless connection?

Yes, you will be using a new IP address for your wireless connection.

When will my computer get a new address?

We will have a 'cut over' from the old addresses to the new addresses, done on a building by building basis. A schedule of planned 'cut over' dates for each building is posted on this website. All wireless addresses are scheduled to 'cut over' mid-2009.
