Network Update and Redesign Information

The UTHSC Department of Information Technology Services is pleased to inform all Students, Faculty, and Staff, that the network hardware for the campus will soon undergo a complete renovation. Our current network hardware has run continuously since 1999 (prior to Y2K) and has passed its life expectancy by a few years. In other words, it is due for an overhaul.

The goal is to provide the UTHSC campus with a state-of-the-art network infrastructure focusing on a higher level of security for all of UTHSC while increasing the networking speed on campus by five times the current infrastructure model. The Department of ITS staff began by assigning various working groups to identify individuals/departments or colleges’ specific needs and concerns, decreasing any long term affects on the overall end-user community.

The Department of ITS will periodically send e-mail notifications identifying areas of focus and potential services interruptions. We will also post percentage status of completion on the UTHSC web page and other detailed updates through the UTHSC periodical “The Record”. If there are any immediate concerns or questions please call ITS Department of Network Services at 901-448-8460 or e-mail utnet@utmem.edu.

We would like to thank everyone in advance for your support and patience.

Jason Holden, Director of Infrastructure
