Research Interests
The research in my laboratory is focused on using genomics and proteomics technologies to understand the synthesis of gene products and their impact and function on the cell biology of the studied organism. The model systems in use are clinically relevant, sometimes intracellular and/or invasive bacteria. The proteomes and transcriptomes of the intracellular vs. extracellular bacteria are examined for expression differences that will lead to the discovery of gene products important for the virulent infection cycles. Additionally, proteomics and microarray analyses are reconciled with extensive bioinformatics analyses of genome sequences of subspecies, ranging from avirulent to virulent phenotypes, for the purpose of understanding the evolution of infectious disease in these model organisms.
