Confocal ScopesBecause of new developments in digital scanning, lasers and imaging technology, the Confocal Laser Scanning Microscope (CLSM) has only recently become a practical instrument for routine research studies. Now, CLSM is fast becoming the instrument of choice for biological research, chemical analysis, and materials testing. Several manufacturers are producing confocal microscope systems, each offering different features and technologies. The Department of Molecular Sciences, has a three-color confocal microscope. It is available for use, after training, by reserving time with Dr. Michael Whitt. Go to the Confocal Reservation Calendar to view scope availability and to make reservations. To access the calendar enter uthsc\NetID and your password. A second confocal microscope is available through the Department of Anatomy and Neurobiology in their Ultrastructural Research Facility. Please contact Dr. Andrea Elberger for more information. A laser dissection microscope is in the department of Pharmacology. Please contact Dr. Shannon Matta for additional information. |
