Vision
Statement
Through a combination of clinical
and basic science investigation, the Memphis Lung Research Program will
achieve a 50% reduction in mortality from acute respiratory distress syndrome
and sepsis. The accomplishment of this goal will result in more than 100,000
lives saved each year in the USA. Moreover, the hospital cost per patient
will decrease by 50%, which will save billions of dollars each year in
national health care cost.
The Memphis Lung Research Program aspires to become a leading center for
Critical Care Research which will bring international recognition to the
supporting Foundations, the University of Tennessee, and to the city of
Memphis. The Memphis Lung Research Program will provide an attractive
environment for physicians and basic scientists who wish to conduct efficient
and highly rewarding investigation. The Memphis Lung Research Program
will be competitive for funding from national agencies, private industries,
and foundations.
