Malak Kotb, Ph.D.
Laboratory

Dr. Kotb is a tenured Professor at UTHSC, where she directs the Immunogenetics, Translational and Biodefense Research Programs. She is also a Senior Research Career Scientist at the VA Medical Center in Memphis, where she is Chief of the Lymphocyte Research Program. Her Ph.D. is in Immunology and Biochemistry from UTHSC and St. Jude Hospital. She has ample expertise in immunology, immunogenetics, microbial pathogenesis, molecular biology, genomics, proteomics, protein chemistry, enzymology, and in working with models to define host-pathogen interactions. Dr. Kotb directs the Mid-South Center for Biodefense and Security and played a major role in securing the Regional Biocontainment Laboratory (RBL) grant from NIH. She also represents UT for Region IV RCE-biodefense (SERCEB) and the partners’ board of the Southeastern Center for Emerging Biological Threats (SECEBT).
