Welcome
to the UT Division of Infectious Diseases
Our division was founded in the mid 1960s by Dr. Gene Stollerman,
then chairman of the Department of Medicine and a leading expert
in streptococcal diseases. His first two fellows, Dr. Alan Bisno
and the late Dr. Ed Beachey, became respectively the second and
third Division Chiefs. These three individuals built the Division
into an internationally-recognized research group devoted to the
study of bacterial pathogenesis and immunology, particularly group
A streptococcal infections, rheumatic fever, and bacterial adherence.
