Vision
The vision of the UT Department of Family Medicine is to improve the health of
the people of Tennessee through leadership in family medicine education, patient
care, scholarly activities, collaboration and community service.
Mission
The primary mission of the UT Department of
Family Medicine is to produce high quality Family Medicine physicians to support
the primary care needs of the state of Tennessee. To fulfill this vision and
mission, we will:

Provide a warm, nurturing educational and work environment for health care
professionals at all levels to grow and learn

Provide patients the highest quality, most compassionate, safest, and most
cost-effective medical care in our family medicine centers and inpatient
facilities

Develop, maintain, monitor, and constantly update our educational programs for
students, residents, fellows, preceptors and practicing physicians across
Tennessee to ensure we provide our learners the best educational programs

Develop and maintain the proper academic atmosphere that promotes the discovery
and dissemination of knowledge important to Family Medicine education, patient
care, health delivery systems and leadership

Collaborate with UTHSC departments, residency programs, other health care
professionals, universities, individuals, local and state organizations and
governments to enhance patient care, teaching, research and community service
