Department of Family Medicine, Student Research Assistantship Program

Welcome to the UT Family Medicine Student Research Assistantship Program

Let me tell you about an exciting summer opportunity. The opportunity is the Family Medicine Student Research Assistantship Program (R.A.P.). In its 22-year history, 147 medical students have completed and highly rated the program.

R.A.P. may be for you, if you would enjoy working in a clinical setting while learning something about clinically relevant research.

R.A.P. is designed to:

  • Improve your ability to read the medical literature;
  • Increase your ability to think critically based on medical observations experienced in every day practice;
  • Provide you with an opportunity to present your written report at a professional meeting at no expense to you and/or become published before you graduate.
  • Provide you with an opportunity to see family medicine up close and personal by participating directly in a family medicine residency program and clinic. (70% research, 30% clinical care)

You don't have to be a rocket scientist, love rats, or punch a clock.

You will receive a stipend of $2,000 for your eight-week equivalent project by meeting the terms of your written agreement.
