Q. How do you minimize a window in Netscape/Explorer?

A. At the top right corner of your browser you will see three small buttons. The first has a dash, the second looks like two small overlapping boxes and the third has an X. To minimize the window move your mouse over to the box with the dash. When the arrow is on this box, click the left mouse button. This will cause the window to minimize so that it does not obscure any other windows currently open. You can still be access the minimized window from the toolbar at the bottom of your screen.

Q. How do I use the new menu search option?

A. In the upper right corner of your main menu is an input box with a gray search button to its immediate right. Place your mouse over the input box and left click so that your cursor appears inside the box. Then you can type in a keyword or keywords that you wish to find. After entering your search string move your mouse to the gray search button and left click. Your matches will appear below. Be careful when entering multiple words! The search engine will pull every occurrence of each word you type into the input box. You could get a long list of options.

Q. Would more memory on my PC improve performance?

A. You can open and minimize as many Oracle screens as your PC's memory will allow. The more memory you have on your PC, the more screens you will be able to open without noticing a slowdown on your PC. It is recommended that you keep only the screens that you will use most often minimized on your PC. Please note that once you have a screen minimized you can not open it up again through your main menu. A message saying "loading form …." will appear and nothing will happen.

Q. How many Oracle screens can I have opened and minimized at one time?

A. More memory on your workstation will improve your overall performance. Your forms will load faster and you can keep more items minimized while working, but your reports will not run any faster. The speed of your reports depends on the load on the server at the time you send your report. If the server is not busy, your report will run faster.

Q. How can I tell what versions of Netscape, J-initiator, and Adobe Acrobat I have on my PC?

To find out what version of Oracle J-Initiator or Adobe Acrobat Reader you are using first click the "Start" button on the bottom left corner of your desktop. A list of items will appear directly above. Move your mouse cursor up until you have highlighted "Settings". A list of items will appear directly to the right of "Settings". Move your mouse cursor over and highlight the option, "Control Panel". Left-click on "Control Panel" and a screen will appear with several icons or a list of options from which to choose. Double-click on the item called "Add/Remove Programs". A box should appear with a list of all your programs in the center. Scroll down the list until you see Adobe Acrobat or Oracle J-Initiator. You should see a version number listed along with these items. You may have more than one version on your computer. It is most likely you are using the version with the highest version number listed. Do not make any changes here, simply exit by clicking on "Cancel" or by clicking the "X" in the top-right corner of the box.
