Welcome to the Department of Information Technology Services
With five functional divisions: Computing Systems, Oracle
Application Development, Networking Services, Technology Support
Services, and Telecommunications, ITS is an integral resource for information technology on campus.
Computing Systems
Computing Systems Division operates resources that are used throughout the campus and the greater
Memphis health care community. These resources include application-specific, clustered, and development
computing servers. The Computing Systems staff maintains the campus email system, listservs and webservers.
Oracle Application Development Division
The Application Development Department is a key element in the overall mission
of the Health Science Campus. This team works closely with individual colleges,
executive management, administrative staff and external consultants to provide
applications and support services necessary in today's academic environment.
These applications include the Student and Faculty Information Systems, College
of Dentistry Patient Billing and Scheduling System,as well as applications developed
to interface with the IRIS system, including the Security Badge System,
Personnel Tracking Systems, and the HSC Campus Parking System.
Conformation to applicable state and federal regulations and laws are part
of the development criteria for many of these systems, e.g, HIPAA and OSHA regulations.
The academic community requires the latest and most productive computing capabilities available.
Consequently, the Application Development Department continually integrates new technology when
developing systems and incorporates new technologies into its support for existing systems.
In the past, new technologies have included migrating to web based application interfaces and
support for complete encryption for transmitted data.
Technology Support Services
Technology Support Services Division provides user support and training in office automation,
personal computer software, and troubleshooting of information technology systems.
Recently the training section of this division has increased its offering to the campus.
Technology support feels that training and user support can be the catalyst for a culture
shift in the way Information Technology is seen on campus. Training and a movement toward a
learning organization model, in which the employees visualize a potential and feel empowered
to effect outcomes, will help cross the cultural boundaries in this organization. The HelpDesk
was created to field user calls and answer the calls in a more proficient and timely manner.
Telecommunications and Networking Services
Telecommunications and Networking Systems Division plans, installs, manages,
maintains, and coordinates all aspects of telecommunications and
networking utilities for the University. This division provides
a variety of telephone services to over 5,000 individuals both on
and off campus. Such services include: local and long distance telephone
service, teleconferencing, telephone installations, moves, repairs
and system updates, and voice mail. The Division also provides network
services to the entire campus and its outlying clinics. Such services
include Internet access, network installation, moves, repairs, monitoring,
and system updates.
Computing Resources Handbook
Computing resources handbooks provide a listing of computing and
Telecommunications Services available to students, faculty and staff
