Malrie R. Shelton

Malrie is a social work professional who has spent more than 25 years in clinical and administrative roles in health care and community based settings. She joined the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in May, 2004 as director of Community Relations with the Institute for Women’s Health. She began her career as a perinatal social worker at the University of Tennessee Newborn Center. She was recruited to Le Bonheur Children’s Medical Center where she spent 19 years in various roles including director of social work and discharge planning, and administrative director of the Partnership for Women’s and Children’s Health, a division responsible for developing and managing outreach and community based partnerships and programs for the Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare. Malrie has been successful in securing funding for several community based partnerships including the Memphis City Schools/Le Bonheur’s School Health Program and Assisi/Growing Up Community Response to ADHD Projects.

Malrie holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Memphis. She earned her master of science in social work from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. She is active in the social work community serving on University committees, as adjunct faculty at the University of Memphis and as a training professional in the child welfare division. She has served on numerous community boards such as the Make a Wish Foundation, Memphis and Shelby County Community Services Agency, Ryan White HIV Community Board and the First Years Institute.
